>> kron 4 news starts now with a developing story. let it right to san francisco a scene of a recent fire. this particular one occurred in the west portal avenue at exactly 9 west portal avenue adjacent to the west portal station. at cafe caught on fire after 5:00 a.m. let's get to the scene we have our kron 4 reporter giving us the latest. have the flames died down?. >> the flames have stopped bursting through which they have been doing the last half-hour. this is a fire that officials say is a difficult fire to fight because of the location of the building. 110 firefighters on seen it is up to a fourth alarm fire. you can see the ladders are spraying water on top of the building. lots of crews on seen as you can the slot and gobble cafe in the background the west portal muni station. no trains are coming through. there is nowhere to go one of the muni trains had to pull over and let 75 to 100 people off. these firefighters are continuing to be on the scene to control the fire. it is difficult because it is on the corner. you can see the flames behind the trees again pop

this morning after a haz-mat incident in san francisco. crews evacuated a whole block between green and vallejo street. a call of an apparent suicide. when they got that. they smelled chemicals. 15 people in the building had to be evacuated. all reporting a strong smell in the area. firefighters were in the building for three hours trying to disperse the chemical to make it safe for people to return. police are investigating a murder late last night. officers responded to a welfare check after 11:00. they found a man in his 30s inside a car. he had been shot. he died at the scene. police haven't announce arrests in that case. >> seismic retrofitting and repairs and you're looking now at a live picture of the bridge. i hope we are. no they're looking at my face right now. well any way. now we're at least at the bridge there. work began friday night it's going on around the clock in recent years it's become standard operating procedures so close bridges to do necessary upgrades and repairs. 30-foot section of the bridge will be replaced. the work stems from a crack found in the support two years

night's debate. in san francisco a memorial was held for chris stevens. the u.s. pass door who lost his fight in the attack. edward lawrence reports. >> reporter: hundreds of people filled san francisco's city hall to honor ambassador chris stevens, one of four americans killed last month when terrorists attacked the u.s. consulate in benghazi. friends, family, dignitaries and members of the public came to remember their home town hero. stevens grew up in the bay area and went to college in nearby berkeley. >> though he lived far away, he had a lot of friends, he had a very challenging job, he always came home. >> reporter: the life long bachelor served as a diplomat in the middle east. he worked with rebels who would overthrow moammar gadhafi. george schultz says stevens lost his life serving his country. >> we gather to celebrate the immense accomplishments that this man has made for us. >> reporter: stevens' family said they received an outpouring of support from around the world including letters from the libyan people. >> he built the bridge between libya and the united states. >>
